Citizens Forum

Public accountability is growing in popularity as a governing model for the delivery of public goods and services efficiently and effectively. It’s the obligation of the government, its agencies and public officials to provide information about their decisions and actions and to justify them to the public and those institutions of accountability tasked with providing oversight.

Despite the numerous efforts which have borne fruit, such as the establishment of law and order as well as in the security sector, there are challenges and opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of government institutions to deliver public services. One of the ways PDRC identified as a means of bringing the government closer to the people is through the increase in public participation in decision making and accountability on the part of the government.

The increase of transparency and openness and the service orientation of public organizations have challenged the traditional values of discretion and equality which were the norms.

The objective of the Citizens Forum is:

  • Strengthened and increased citizen participation in government decision making

  • Provide a platform for governance accountability

  • Identification of prioritized actions for future work to advance support for implementation at country level.

  • The facilitation of good networking amongst various partners resulting in a lasting network of experts and practitioners

  • To build public support for government initiatives;

  • To restore a sense of ownership, ethics, integrity, accountability and trust in the government
