Economic Vulnerability and Resilience in Puntland

The State Bank of Puntland has conducted a study on the economic vulnerability and resilience of Puntland State of Somalia. The research examines how the region’s economy has been shaped by a combination of pressures, including the ISIS insurgency, reductions in foreign aid, recurrent droughts, and the indirect effects of the Iran-Israel conflict on fuel and food prices. It looks at how these overlapping shocks affect businesses, employment, household income, government revenue, and access to essential services across the region.

The study combines data from government officials, business owners, and community leaders with information from government reports, UN agencies, and international financial institutions. The goal is to give policymakers, humanitarian organizations, and development partners a clearer picture of the challenges facing Puntland’s economy and to identify practical strategies to strengthen resilience and support recovery.

PDRC has proudly provided the State Bank with technical support in the production and distribution of the report.
