On June 26th, the PDRC-MAVU Team facilitated elections for over 120 students of Ramadan School in Galkayo for the establishment of the first Student Association.
This election, in which 100 student representatives voted for 21 candidates contending for the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and Executive Secretary Positions, provided the practical application of democratic principles. As each student cast ballots and an Electoral Committee comprised of civil society, RPS Faculty and PDRC individuals counted votes aloud-an atmosphere embodying a genuine sense of democracy filled the event hall.
The election concluded with three confirmed students for respective positions; moreover, a young female student studying Public Health emerged as the Chairperson of Ramadan School’s Student Association. This, in and of itself, shows the sincere desire for progress and development among the youth of Puntland.
PDRC-MAVU implemented this activity through the generous support of our close partner Interpeace.
